Trump Media Expands Truth Social with AI Trademarks
Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), majority-owned by former US President Donald Trump’s family, has filed two artificial intelligence (AI) trademarks for its Truth Social platform. The applications for ‘Truth Social AI’ and ‘Truth Social AI Search’ aim to establish the platform as a provider of ‘reliable information, non-woke news, and entertainment,’ according to Trump Media Chairman and CEO Devin Nunes.
Market Performance and Financial Overview
TMTG shares rose 5.5% on Wednesday, outperforming the Nasdaq Composite Index where the company trades. However, the company reported a Q1 2025 net loss of $31.7 million against $8.8 million in revenue.
History with Emerging Technologies
This marks TMTG’s latest move into new technologies, following previous trademark filings for cryptocurrency services and ETFs. In February, DTTM Operations, another Trump-affiliated company, sought trademarks for a Trump-branded metaverse project.
Platform Growth and Industry Context
Truth Social reported 6.3 million users in January, though this number has fluctuated significantly. The platform remains much smaller than competitors like Facebook, which boasted 3.1 billion monthly active users in 2023.
Content Moderation Debates
The development comes amid ongoing discussions about technology’s role in content moderation and potential political bias, with similar platforms facing criticism over their AI implementations.
