Pudgy Penguins Launches Skill-Based Web3 Game on TON Blockchain
Pudgy Penguins has introduced Pengu Clash, a new skill-based Web3 game on The Open Network (TON) blockchain. This strategic move positions Pudgy Penguins within the competitive mini-game sector, emphasizing a play-to-win model that rewards players based on skill rather than speculation.
Understanding the Play-to-Win Model
According to Luca Netz, CEO of Pudgy Penguins, the game sets itself apart from traditional play-to-earn models by focusing on direct competition between players. “Play-to-win is fundamentally a skill-based game,” Netz stated. The game offers various modes, each with unique rules and objectives, designed to test and reward player expertise.
Leveraging Telegram’s User Base
Choosing the TON blockchain was a strategic decision aimed at accessing Telegram’s vast and diverse user base, including key markets like Northern Europe. Netz views this as a pivotal opportunity to expand the Pudgy Penguins brand, with financial gains considered a secondary benefit.
Background and Future Plans
Initially launched as an NFT collection in 2021, Pudgy Penguins has seen significant growth, boasting a market capitalization close to $200 million. The team is gearing up to release additional games, with Pudgy Party scheduled for launch in August.
TON Blockchain’s Current State
Despite experiencing a decline in monthly active wallets, the TON blockchain remains active, processing a considerable volume of transactions daily and sustaining its position in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
